Kijana Kwanza is appealing for donors to urgently support a water well project at one of our shelters for orphaned children. Government water supplies are regularly cut off due to shortages in town.
We are now forced to collect water in buckets from a nearby stream for cooking and drinking, with toilets left in unsanitary conditions and showers unusable.
The solution: a deep-water well of nearly 200m in depth. Since we are based on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro, the process requires heavy machine-drilling through volcanic rock that will cost £12,000/$15,000.
