Volunteer in Tanzania
For a life-changing experience, we invite you to volunteer at Kijana Kwanza, whether it’s just for 2 weeks or a whole year!As part of your volunteering we can provide you with comprehensive support from the moment you arrive until the end of your placement. We can also arrange visits to local tourist sites at a special discounted rate for Kijana Kwanza volunteers. All our volunteer placements are tailored around your interests and skills – whether you’re a student or a qualified and experienced professional, you are most welcome. We’re also very happy to consider developing additional programmes and activities that will benefit young people in Tanzania. Prospective volunteers are encouraged to contact us directly to discuss their ideas. Although we are always in need of native English speakers to deliver language classes formally – or through informal conversations – there are lots of other opportunities. Some examples of volunteering include:
- Coaching sports (in particular football!)
- Running a first aid workshop
- Organising an arts project
- Teaching young people a specific skill like tailoring, DIY or gardening
We normally request a contribution of £75/$100 to facilitate your volunteer placement – from giving you advice on travel and visas to helping you find suitable accommodation. This is waived for any volunteer who is currently sponsoring a child at Kijana Kwanza, and has done so for at least 12 months. You are, however, expected to cover all your own costs including flights, visas, airport transfers, accommodation and meals, although you may consider fundraising by setting up a fundraising page to meet this cost.
From time to time, we may offer subsidised or free accommodation on-site and meals, if we have specifically advertised for a particular international volunteering role. You should be aware that this is basic accommodation and local cuisine, and some distance from local amenities such as popular restaurants and shops.
