With the summer holidays in full swing (technically it’s a grey and rainy winter on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro), our IT Lab, a somewhat unique resource because almost no one has access to a computer, is bustling with entry level students. We start right at the beginning: searching for the power button on these historic desktops.
Teacher Kisra, who was himself sponsored by Kijana Kwanza to undertake a Diploma in Computer Science, has so far trained over 500 young people. The skills are basic: wordprocessing, using email and surfing the web – but for us, this programme of digital inclusion, is truly groundbreaking.
