Last night, the lights were switched off, the cushions (𝘸𝘦𝘭𝘭, 𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘴) were laid out and popcorn was served, as our female vocational students sat down to watch Binti (daughter/young woman), the first Tanzanian movie on Netflix.
The Swahili-language film tells the story of 4 Tanzanian women, battling the complexities of love, motherhood and societal expectations.
At the end of the movie, Batuli, our Vocational Training Manager, led a spirited discussion on gender equality, and how our young women can challenge social stereotypes to become strong and successful, and achieve their dreams.
