This evening, the children and young people of Kijana Kwanza gathered for an interfaith memorial service to mark one year since the devastating accident in which our teacher, Hadija, and sponsored student, Raymond, alongside his friends, Ashrafu and Mustapha, passed away.
The tragedy, which has become a defining moment in our history, was remembered with Christian hymns and Muslim prayers in the grounds of Kariwa Shelter, where Hadija and Raymond lived prior to their death.
Memories of that day are still raw, but slowly our tears are transforming to heartfelt memories. Later this year, we will open Njoro Maternity Clinic, a new facility for expectant and new mothers, as a lasting tribute to our loved ones.
