At the onset of the global pandemic, Kijana Kwanza launched a special appeal to assist local people with preventative measures to combat Covid-19. As part of our campaign, we distributed 2,500 bottles of liquid soap in public areas, organised street workshops on handwashing, and launched an online video on Facebook about handwashing to reach new audiences. We also installed handwashing facilities at several schools.
However, it was the third phase of the pandemic that put greatest pressure on hospitals and medical facilities. Hospitals quickly ran out of oxygen and medical supplies and panic spread across the town. Despite the inflated prices, we helped local hospitals and medical clinic by refilling 1,050 cylinders of oxygen saving countless lives and helped restock hospital pharmacies that had run of essential medicine.
