This week, Kijana Kwanza staff and volunteers are travelling across Tanzania to meet children who have been identified as at-risk by our local contacts, and recommended for sponsorship through secondary school from January 2024.
Mohammed Banda, a sponsored student of social work, is visiting Ruvuma Region in the far south of the country, over 1,200km from Moshi Town, a journey that takes some 20 hours by bus.
He is investigating the story of a girl who lives alone without a guardian, which reminds him of his own childhood. From the age of 8 years, Mohammed Banda was left to bring himself up without any adult to support him.
