It has been an agonising few days as staff at Kijana Kwanza have debated which 12 children to select for sponsorship from January 2023.
Do you choose a boy who has suffered rape or a girl who will be sold off for the highest bride price? Should academic excellence be rewarded or should we assume that those children will make it without us? Is it enough to be hungry to be given a place at our shelter? Is it better to help 2 children survive, rather than ensure that 1 child succeeds?
